Pour pouvoir répondre à la question “qu’est-ce qu’une tapisserie ?”, le visiteur a été invité à parcourir toutes les salles du Château des Ponts- de -Cé.
Il a commencé son cheminement par la tapisserie au sens compris dans le langage courant, soit le papier peint.
Une salle entière était en effet consacrée aux différentes techniques d’impression du papier à tapisser les murs et notamment le papier imprimé à la planche, technique mise au point au XVIIIème siècle.
Il a pu découvrir :
• qu’une fabrique utilisait cette technique ancestrale il n’y a pas si longtemps en Anjou : les papiers peints MAUNY à Thouarcé ;
• qu’il suffit de remonter la Loire pour voir consacrer le renouveau du papier peint à la planche au sein de l‘Atelier d’Offard créé à Saumur par François-Xavier RICHARD puis transféré à Tours.
Par ailleurs, dans le langage des arts décoratifs, le vocable tapisserie désigne soit une broderie sur toile ou sur canevas (tapisserie aux points) soit un tissage sur métier (tapisserie de lisse).
Quelques tapisseries aux points anciennes étaient mises en scène dans la salle des poètes patoisants.
Enfin, la visite s’achevait par l’évocation de la tapisserie de lisse au travers de la reconstitution de l’atelier d’un lissier, en l’espèce celui de Marie-Annick Loubaud.
Cette dernière s’est illustrée à Angers par son activité de restauratrice de la tenture de l’Apocalypse et par sa contribution au mouvement de la nouvelle tapisserie notamment au sein de l‘Atelier de Tapisserie Angevin.
Lors de sa disparition brutale le 6 janvier 2011, elle participait activement à la préparation de cette exposition, en sa qualité de membre de l’association des amis du Musée des Coiffes et des Traditions.
Sa famille a décidé de continuer son dernier projet, en collaboration avec l’association qui, à cette occasion a rendu hommage à sa carrière et édité sa biographie.
